Diverting the first flush of rainwater is the most important factor

in achieving high quality catchment water.

How To Install Smart-Valve into a pipe system

Note: a Sanitary Tee is shown because a specific orientation is needed to easily install and remove the Valve Ball. Other tee types do not require a specific orientation.

                                                         1.  Place your Sanitary Tee (or other Tee) on a level surface oriented

as shown in Fig. A.
Remove the removable plug if it is attached (removable plug not shown).

2.   Insert the Valve Seat with the rubber gasket side towards the center
      of the fitting
into the Tee’s pipe socket as shown in Fig. A.
Press the Valve Seat firmly against the pipe Tee’s hub seat.
It should fit snugly and securely.

3.   Turn the Tee upside down as shown in Fig. B.

4.   Insert the Deflector into the Tee's other socket as shown in Fig. B.

5.   Prepare the down pipe and the Tee (Deflector side) for
      solvent-weld or compression-seal joining.
( use standard procedures as recommended by your pipe supplier ).

6.   Attach the Tee (Deflector side) to the down pipe as shown in Fig. C.
Be sure to position the Tee's removable plug so that it is accessible !!

[Note: some compression-seal fitting manufacturers require the pipe to be
backed-out a small distance after seating; this is acceptable].

7.   Prepare the drainpipe and the Tee (Valve Seat side) for
      solvent-weld or compression-seal joining.
( use standard procedures as recommended by your pipe supplier ).

8.   Attach the drainpipe to the Tee (Valve Seat side) as shown in Fig. D.
Be sure the drainpipe is fully inserted into the Tee and pressing against
      the Valve Seat.

[Note: some compression-seal fitting manufacturers require the pipe to be
backed-out a small distance after seating; this is acceptable].

9.   Check that the Valve Assembly's nylon support rod fits inside your
down pipe. To do this, take a piece of scrap pipe and check the fit
       as shown in Fig. E.
If needed, file or sand the ends of the nylon support rod until it fits
inside the down pipe. A somewhat loose fit is acceptable.

10.  Insert the Valve Assembly inside the Tee as shown in Fig. F.  This is
easy to do by hand. Don't worry about stretching the
spring a bit - you'll need to in order to hang the Ball as shown.

11.  Apply PTFE tape to the threads of the removable plug and install the
removable plug onto the fitting; 3-5 tight wraps of PTFE tape will ensure
that the plug does not leak and also makes it easy to install the plug
      without tools (e.g. hand-tight).
