Tid-bits about Silver City and the surrounding areas. Town population around 18,000. Elevation 6,300 ft above sea level.

Glenwood Catwalk

This is a personal favorite and a MUST SEE!!!

We describe this place as a "mini Grand Canyon."

This is an easy hike with absolutely beautiful natural swimming pools.

Mogollon Ghost Town

The drive up to this fascinating old mountain town is like a ride at Disneyland! Have your cameras ready, as you will experience breathtaking mountain views overlooking thousands of feet drop-offs to the valley below. Mogollon (pronounced muggy-yon) was named after the ancient Indians that used to live in this area. The name stands for "ancestors of our enemies" and is a Spanish translation from the Anasazi. At one time, this little town was the largest booming gold-rush town in New Mexico. It had a population of over 10,000 people all hoping to strike it rich. In the late 1800's the governor of New Mexico was smitten with the town of Mogollon and it was considered a main contender to be our State Capital (now Santa Fe) before the entire town burned down (twice).

Cliff Dwellings National Monument

The Cliff Dwellings were built an estimated 15,000 years ago. At one time, this area of

New Mexico was one of the most populated areas in North America!

Pinos Altos Gold Mining Town

The Buckhorn Saloon has historic ambiance & dining atmosphere. Step into the 1800's

as soon as you walk in the door. In the evenings there is usually some entertainment. The Pinos Altos Opera House, right next door, was built by a smitten Judge Roy Bean for the periods then famous Lilly Langtree. There are melodrama performances there throughout the summer.

Silver City,  & Silver City Museum

Local food and beverage venues that we like!

The Twisted Vine This is a nice place with a trendy atmosphere for all ages. They have a great out-door patio in the back that overlooks the little creek running through downtown Silver city. They usually have a musician or band playing at night which is fun. They ONLY serve New Mexican made wines.

Buffalo Bar While this bar is not for everyone, I would describe it as a rougher "Cheers" with good pool tables. Dive-atmosphere. Nice drinks and an established social scene for the younger crowd.

Dianne's Restaurant & Bakery This is a really great place to eat if  you want nice pasta, chicken, fish, or salads. Nice pricing for lunch, a little more expensive for dinner.

Jalisco's Mexican Restaurant We like to eat here for great New Mexican food...although Silver City has a LOT of good Mexican restaurants.

When in doubt about a restaurant or bar, just ask a local. Silver City still has a small friendly tone to it. For the most part people will really go out of their way to help you! Or you can always contact us.
