Product Description:
A FIRST FLUSH device that fits to the down pipe and
comes in kit form - just add pipe (see illustration) Takes the first flow
of water from the roof gutter and dumps it and then automatically diverts
the rest of the water to the tank. This unique device empties itself of
contaminated water and solid debris such as leaves and dirt. It resets
automatically.
What does a First Flush Water
Diverter Do?
The primary purpose of a first flush diverter is to take the first flow of water
from the roof when it rains and divert it away from your water storage tank.
The first flush of water from the roof can contain bacteria from bird and animal
droppings, as well as acid rain and possibly many other contaminates. These
contaminates are diverted, along with the first-flush of rainwater, away from
your clean water tank. A first flush water diverter will also remove sediment,
water borne heavy metals and chemical residues, all of which are highly
undesirable elements to have in a water storage system.
How
the Smart Valve kit works:
You buy a PVC tee from your local supplier, install a Smart-Valve Rainwater Diverter kit inside, then attach it to your down pipe (see pipe design examples ). The kit contains robust components that will last for years. A complete set of simple installation instructions is included.
The above fittings must have a removable plug (as
shown) so that Smart-Valve can be installed and or cleaned, be sure to buy the
plug and/or threaded adapter as well. Threads on plug can be male or female, it
doesn't matter, as long as they match the fitting.
